As designated teachers have begun to take up the role of Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), they are expected to assist the school management in planning, coordinating and implementing the Whole School Approach to Integrated Education - to cultivate an inclusive school culture and enhance the effectiveness of the support given to SEN students. However, what comes along with the implementation of the SENCO policy and the provision of additional resources from the government is raised expectations from the school management, teachers, parents and students. The SENCO is now preoccupied with the challenge of bringing changes to the school so that its resources are used more effectively in supporting the learning of students with SEN. The two speakers will each share their respective personal stories of exploration, struggle and success in bringing changes to their school cultures.
