Knitting Therapy for SEN Students 編織治療(適合:有特殊學習需要的學生)

Research completed in 2007 at Harvard Medical School proved that knitting induces therapeutic effects for people with mood disorders, in the same way as yoga and meditation. According to Benson Corkhill, 87% of people with mood problems improved after knitting. 1. Knitting involves repetitive and rhythmic motion, which helps reduce stress hormones and boost feel-good hormones such as serotonin and dopamine. 2. Knitting yields tangible products which students can utilise, resulting in a greater sense of achievement. We also found out that beside students with mood problems, knitting therapy is particularly effective on ADHD and ASD students. And so, we have developed different workshops for students with different special education needs. The workshop design and the knitting process are different respectively; however, all students are able to finish 24 same knitted items.

一項2007年於哈佛醫學院完成的研究證明,編織如同瑜伽、冥想一樣,可以為情緒障礙患者帶來治療成效。學者Benson Corkhill的研究指出,87%受情緒困擾人士在編織後情況得以改善。 1. 編織涉及重複並富節奏的運動,有助減少壓力荷爾蒙,並促進產生帶來良好感 覺的荷爾蒙,如血清素和多巴胺。 2. 編織產生實質製成品,學生可隨身攜帶,從而產生更大成就感。我們同時發現,不單是情緒受困擾的學生,編織治療尤其適合ADHD及ASD學生。 為此,我們發展了不同的工作坊給有不同特殊學習需要的學生。工作坊的設計甚或編織過程都各有不同的,但每個學生都能完成24件手織作品。
