Speakers will present their proposal in promoting life education through integrating the Internet of Things and STEM. Internet of Things (IoT) is a kind of technology which helps to collect and analyzes data, generating useful information for decisions making and process automation. A typical use case of IoT in STEM is to assist in robotic perception and reaction. Artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis may also rely on data collected by IoT technology. These technologies can be integrated with modern teaching methods to enhance teaching and learning. The teaching plan to be presented will show you how IoT is being used to help students to observe the growth of animals and plants, as well as to automate some works. The teaching plan is divided into two modules. First, students will apply the knowledge they learnt from STEM courses to construct their own life observation and caring device. This may involve the use of Raspberry Pi, 3D printing, sensors and motors. Second, a social platform will be provided. Students may remotely monitor their pets/ plants and discuss the status with others. Meanwhile teachers may make use of the data collected and other teaching materials to carry out life education scheme in an interesting way.
