Education plays an essential role in raising awareness of green challenges and shaping students' values. Pak Kau College launched the STEM education programme called 'Greenovation' in September 2018 to encourage junior secondary school students to adopt design thinking and STEM knowledge to solve environmental problems by their innovative ideas. In partnership with green groups and community resources, the programme starts with Deep Learning Day, enabling participants to ponder the environmental problems through authentic learning activities, that aligned with the learning objectives in the curriculum guide of Science Education Key Learning Area (Energy and Natural Science). By participating in the STEM workshops, rethinking the environmental problems using design thinking tools, prototyping, testing, and presenting their innovative project in school’s Maker Faire, not only students are encouraged to take green actions, the community could also share the benefits of innovations. 'Greenovation' enhances students' ability to integrate and apply STEM knowledge and skills, and 21st century skills such as creativity, collaboration, problem-solving. The post-event data is very encouraging to show that more than 90% of the students agreed the learning activities could enhance their self-confidence and science knowledge.
