EdTech Case Study: Cultivating Learning Beyond the Classroom
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Co-written by Michael Chian Kwok Tung 由陳國棟先生共同撰寫 Chairman of BeED 必得智慧主席

Afshar (2001) supported the view that “international pedagogical experiences provide participants with an opportunity to acquire knowledge through action across a broad range of institutional and cultural contexts; and is invaluable to the development of a reflective planning practitioner”.

Following this view, it is crucial to recognise that learning does not just happen within a classroom, but that it is a process that can happen anytime and anywhere. With EdTech solutions, it is now easier than ever to break down classroom barriers and allow greater accessibility to education. Learners are able to learn on-the-go, with or without a facilitator, and connect to global learning opportunities that were previously unheard of.

To showcase this, we will highlight a case study of how one institution, using EdTech solutions, achieved substantial learning outcomes by relating academic content to real world context during school excursions. We will then continue to explore various other ways in which these same solutions can be used to provide even greater freedom and flexibility for both learners and educators alike in the process of learning and teaching.

Futureproofing the Next Generation
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Technology evolves at a fast pace, and AI and robots are increasingly prevalent across society. Studies suggest that new technologies will dramatically impact industry and jobs. This trend is already well underway: even today, nearly half of all jobs are at risk from automation.

As seasoned professionals, it is our duty to prepare the next generation for the future - and our future will be (inevitably) dominated by tech. We can prepare young people by promoting their empathy, creativity, and divergent thinking - 21st century skills that are unique to humans (and not found in robots and AI). We have to remain keenly aware that advances in technology mean that young people today are growing up in an environment that is radically different from ours. Additionally, the ways that young people interact with technology are substantially different from the experience of previous generations, leading us to express concerns about safety, health, developmental issues, and a lack of understanding/rapport between generations. We need to be engaged in the activities of the young people from an early age, and take the opportunity to learn and explore technology together in a safe and positive manner.

This workshop will explore the journey that World Challenge have been on since 2016 in helping to define a more community engagement based approach to responsible travel. Through the introduction of ethical student travel forums, to broaden the understanding of orphanage tourism, we have challenged our own historic practices to now set the highest benchmark in responsible student travel. Through the use of Responsible Travel workshops for our teams we are reimagining what Voluntourism can and should look like whilst nurturing the growth of young people to build empathy and understand their place in the world. Aligning our programmes to a significant number of the United Nations SDG’s is one key way of connecting with cultures and understanding issues. Challenging the saviour mentality, which can leave communities feeling disengaged and disempowered can help us all think differently around community engagement.

Going Deeper in STEM education: A Case Sharing of Dreaming Big - STEM Bus 深化 STEM 教育:個案分享 追夢 - STEM Bus
Limited Capacity filling up

In this presentation, it is aimed to let the audience, especially the STEM educators and learners know what possibly can be done after a STEM project prototype is made. STEM education was covered by many schools in Hong Kong nowadays under the scope of robotics, coding, maker, VR, AI etc. The spectrum is undoubtedly wide. However, how do we go deep? There are many STEM competitions in a year and thousands of brilliant ideas and prototypes were made.

This presentation is going to tell the story of what a school has done after winning the first runner-up in the HKSSPC (Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition) back in 2015, how the school followed up with the STEM project and how that is going to affect the school today. Ultimately, it is hoped that this story can encourage and give insights to: the STEM teachers on pushing the limit of the student projects; the STEM learners on how big you can dream; the school management team on how to create the STEM learning atmosphere.

The main outline of the case sharing:
1. The failure in HKSSPC 2014
2. The invention of Bus Vacant Seat Detecting System in HKSSPC 2015
3. The KMB Bus Regeneration Programme and the installation
4. Rebuild the retired bus as the STEM Bus and how to use it for STEM education

STEM Bus
